Hungry for a quality designed website?
Located in the heart of the North Laine, Kooks is bistro dedicated to celebrating Brighton’s weirdness, championing its counter culture with its quirky design, well-sourced and unique ingredients, a bar extensive enough to rival its pub neighbours, and a great soundtrack sourced by owner Tim Healy, a professional DJ and food-entrepreneur.
Its reputation as a hotspot to enjoy Brighton’s oddest cultural offerings, alongside its quality food offerings from breakfast to brunch and dinner, day or night, seven days a week, took Kooks from strength to strength.
The main focus of the brief was to create a simple and functional website that would easily allow users to browse the multiple menus on offer from Kooks, whilst maintaining the unique design aesthetic found in their restaurant. The aim was to create a website that would immediately remind people of Kooks through typography, colour, photography, and use of the famous Kooks logo.
Kooks also utilised a number of third-party site integrations, so we wanted to create an interwoven system which linked together these internal systems in a more functional way.
We were very excited to get started on Kooks’ website and build them a web presence they could be proud of. We started by creating a bespoke design template for Kooks’ WordPress based website, allowing for a greater degree of control over the frequently changing content on the site. We wanted to maintain a minimalistic feel in certain areas of the website to showcase the photography on the site, which did an excellent job of showcasing the food on offer from Kooks.
During the development phase we wanted to keep the UX at the forefront of our design choices, making the website easy to navigate whilst presenting the user with all the required information.
We also included multiple API integrations, styling them in a way that fitted in which the rest of website, as opposed to just placing the widget onto the page. We wanted to ensure all design choices flowed accordingly with our design goals.
We developed a custom CMS for Kooks’ WordPress site, giving restaurant managers easy options to manage content. We designed the CMS to be easily accessible for those who may not come from a technical background, whilst providing the same wealth of options and features we do for all Skoff designed websites.
Another important aspect of our work for Kooks was ensuring their third-party applications were integrated on the website backend and front end. This had to be done in a way that would be easy to manage from the backend of the website, but presented to the user in a stylistic way that matched the rest of the functionality of the site.
Third-party applications we integrated with the website included ResDiary, an online table booking platform, and TBC, a mobile push-notification service which keeps customers updated on the status of their order and table booking.
